7.2 Overriding — extend describe in Bird

Total: 0 / 3 pts

Practice mode — check each part and get hints as you go.

Task

Write Bird extends Animal that overrides describe() so it returns the superclass version followed by " that flies".

Use super.describe() — this extends the inherited behaviour instead of replacing it. The program prints Robin is an animal that flies.

Your solution

class Animal {
    private String name;

    public Animal(String name) {
        this.name = name;
    }

    public String getName() {
        return name;
    }

    public String describe() {
        return name + " is an animal";
    }
}

class Bird extends Animal {
    // constructor with super, then override describe() using super.describe()

}

public class Main {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        Bird b = new Bird("Robin");
        System.out.println(b.describe());
    }
}
